Soliant.cloud FileMaker Server instances come, by default, with a web server installed, in part to support FileMaker WebDirect. Optionally, you can enable PHP and serve those files as well. PHP is not enabled by default.
While you may not want to host a full website on your FileMaker Server, individual PHP scripts can be used to extend the functionality of your solution or accessed as a microservice.
- To enable PHP on your server, log into the FileMaker Server Admin Console with your credentials. Then edit the deployment from the upper right “Server” menu.
- Once in the Deployment Wizard, select “PHP” and choose to install the supported version of PHP. This is the only version supported for installation. If you require another version, other than what is installed automatically, you will want to host your PHP application on a dedicated web server. There, those versions can be controlled and independent of FileMaker Server.
- With PHP enabled, you are able to upload PHP files to the web root on your instance via secure FTP. See the “FTP Access to your Soliant.cloud FileMaker Server” article for instructions on using FTP.
- You will find the web root of your server by uploading files to the “Web” folder via FTP.
If you require a copy of the PHP API that comes with your version of FileMaker Server, that can be provided for you. We also recommend the PHP library SimpleFM for accessing the Web Publishing Engine. This is the preferred method used by Soliant Consulting. It was developed in-house and made freely available and open.
FileMaker Server versions 16 and later include a Data API you also can use. However, they may be subject to additional licensing from FileMaker Inc.
And of course, Soliant Consulting has a well qualified, dedicated web team that specializes in PHP development, should you need it.
